Many years ago, some fairly catchy ads started appearing on Australian TV screens during our summer cricket season, promoting a staple Oz beverage called Victoria Bitter (or "VB" for short). Even I howled along with them....
Sadly, the catchiness rapidly evaporated to annoyance when it was played during just about every cricket ad break for at least 10 years. Barking mad was I (at having to endure the boring cricket, Richie Benaud and the VB ad!).
I was pleased a while back when the ad disappeared (and was hopefully destroyed) until last season, when the dated original version came back with the same monotonous regularity.
I can tell Dad was a huge fan of VB in his earlier years, given the size of the esky he now calls a stomach these days. The six pack has now been replaced by a 24 can carton, believe me!
It is great to see that a dog lover has revamped the old VB jingle to produce a cracking ad for a new non-alcoholic beer for dogs (without hops, smelling like beef and safe for canines, we're told) called DB - Dog's Beer.....
Barney and Miss Beazley, the Presidential Scottish Terriers, release their annual videos each year and here's the latest edition. Former British PM Tony Blair makes a guest appearance too.....
We hope the future President continues this trend (although unless John McCain gets in this looks unlikely). Hilary Clinton has lost two doggies to accidents (including Buddy), Barack Obama doesn't have pets, but McCain has four (including Lucy and Desi) at last count.
Having been to Japan a couple of times, we thinks it's a great place, bit the Japanese TV shows are a tad out there. Think Bill Murray, "Lost in Translation" and add a touch of weirdness on top. In our web travels, we came across this clever Jack Russell and his Japanese family. The Jack Russell certainly deserves the gold medal at the end for his endurance........
We here at MUTTS4US love Odie, but have found in this dog eat dog world (sorry, we couldn't resist..) that Odie has competition as the best canine orator:
I think we might have found one of Boss Mutt Dora's long lost relatives on YouTube (we're not sure how she ended up in the United States, but nevertheless...).
We recently read that "experts" reckon that Shih Tzu's rank among the least intelligent dog breeds. We disagree..
Sophie - the Sneezing Shih Tzu - is one very clever little doggy.
She'll sneeze when told to, but there's a catch as you'll see in the video.
Sophie doesn't sneeze on the first command - she makes sure that she does it only after she makes her owner repeat herself at least twice, and making us humans come across a little bit funny in front of millions of viewers on YouTube (very similar to what Dora does to us, all the time!).
Clearly Sophie the Shih Tzu is in charge, but she's also smart enough to roll-over a couple of times and let her owner actually think she's the boss. That way, Sophie gets treated like the princess she is and I am sure gets plenty of ice cream!
Nice work Sophie - clever doggy - you do Shih Tzu's proud!
PS: note Sophie and Dora both have a similar smile - with the tongue out!
